I watched coronavirus from its inception in Wuhan, China. Well at least when there were reports available. The Communist government was shutting down and punishing doctors who spoke about this as the Chinese elites lied to the WHO. If you told the truth you were in big commie trouble.
What does this have to do with baby blankets?
There was news about the virus regarding a wet market where exotic and wild animals were sold for food, including Chinese delicacies like bats and pangolins. Yum?
After all who really needs rhino horn? I followed the story not initially imagining how it would unfold, and started to prepare anyway.
What does this have to do with little dollies?
This as aircraft were leaving Wuhan for destinations around the world including the US.
China gave no warnings and our officials worldwide were too afraid to be labeled xenophobic or incur problems with their lucrative Chinese investments to say very much other than you are xenophobic if you don’t want exposure to coronavirus. They were backed by an irresponsible press. Maybe you too?
What does this have to do with teddy bears?
I’ve thought about the terms racism and xenophobia regarding coronavirus and made this simple conclusion.
These virtue signals are the baby blankets, teddy bears, and little dollies of people who seek comfort and control during a pandemic that is out of control.
People who have nothing useful to say fall back on familiar tropes and get bent out of shape if the Wuhan virus is called the Wuhan virus. The truth makes them run and dive under their beds repeating their favorite mantras for safety and comfort.
People who are sick, frightened, unemployed, isolated, broke or concerned about their futures probably aren’t interested in virtue signaling right now, but may hope for reparations from China in the future. Or at least let’s start with an apology from China to the entire world.
Pretentiously virtuous Americans have been so upset about calling the Chinese virus the Chinese virus I wonder that they weren’t having tantrums about the labeling of the 1918 Spanish Flu, the German Measles, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (USA), MERS or Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome, Japanese Encephalitis, West Nile Virus from the West Nile district of Uganda, Ebola named after a river and section in Africa or any other truths.
Maybe these diseases should’ve been named after children’s storybook figures or characters from Disney movies.
And speaking of children’s stories, movie stars with eighth grade educations and realities similar to Dumbo the Flying Elephant attempt to explain everything to people who actually have or had employment in the real world outside of movies.
I planned go to Tibet with my 10-year Chinese visa, but China required another one also to enter Tibet. I wanted to visit again so I could learn more about the Chinese invasion, killing of the Lamas, and the flight of the Dalai Lama through the Himalayas to India, but maybe I need to ask for a refund for my 10 year Chinese visa. I now think I’ve been there enough.
Yeah, “Free Tibet.” Some guy that’s been dead for 35 years put that on his Edsel which was in the junkyard 34 years ago.
And in reference to governments, I don’t want politicians and officials to pat me on the head and say, “Little gal, you poor little thing, I’ll be taking care of you.” How? With all the money I give you every month?
Instead, I want to think about what old-fashioned rugged individualism can do. I want people to stop hyper politicizing everything because if you were in charge what would you do differently? And don’t tell me you would just give yourself a bigger handout. How about not being a dependent weakling?
We don’t know what’s going to happen. We don’t know how it’s going to turn out, but I think now is the time for truthfulness, rugged individualism, adulthood, independence, and finally kindness and love.
So, leave your dolly, Teddy Bear and baby blanket under the bed with your trendy terms and figure out how you can best serve others and take care of your families and communities during this pandemic.
Remove the words xenophobia and racism from vocabularies so brains can be free enough to think and learn some meaningful concepts. Review a dictionary or thesaurus. Give the dolly, teddy bear, and baby blanket to charities.
And stop looking to the government to solve all problems in your life. If they had closed our borders in the first place maybe, we wouldn’t be where we are. But perhaps you would’ve been screaming about it if they had.
And on a silly note weeks ago I purchased extra bicycle tubes and tires, road and trail, and toilet paper. This was prior to the panic.
But I never thought of teddy bears, little dollies, and baby blankets and I won’t hide under the bed chanting racism and xenophobia to protect myself from coronavirus like some magical mantra.
We’ll have to see what America is made of, rugged individuals or little children, Movie stars with shamanistic chants, or real working people attempting to navigate a pandemic.
